Coasting along....

The skies may be gray,
But we'll seize the day,
We'll make the most
Cruising the coast!

Yep, no sunshine greeted us in the morning, and the sun pretty remained hidden for most of the day, but that was no deterrent for us. All we had to do was remember the Phoenix/Tucson heat and then we didn't mind the overcast sky and cooler weather.

Don and Sandy head out on the path at Cape Perpetua, which is just off Hwy. 101. It's located on a high bluff above the ocean. Plenty of fresh air here!
This is a view of the steep path from the bluff down to the chasm called Devil's Churn.
Devil's Churn began as a week fracture in volcanic rock. Years of pounding waves have widened the gap. Wish we had been there during high tide, when the waves are more explosive, especially when the incoming and outgoing waves collide.
Further down the Cape Perpetual Scenic Drive we stopped at another viewing stop and I got a nice picture of this rugged coastline. This is not a prime spot for surfers! There are numerous signs in the area warning visitors to never turn their backs to the ocean because the waves are unpredictable and dangerous.
We moseyed southward to the quaint fishing town of Florence, Oregon. Fishing boats rested on the calm waters of the bay.
We even found a sign of how far we were from Florence, Arizona!
Now you know why I "control" the camera most of the time. Don just had to take a picture of Sandy and me as we came around the corner. I'm sure there was a much nicer place for a photo, but no, he had to pick this one!
Lunch was at Mo's, a popular seafood restaurant. Sandy, Jerry and Don all enjoyed the clam chowder while I chose the fish and chips (just for the halibut....). Actually, I had cod, but that didn't work out with the pun I was trying to make. : (
I got a laugh out of this sign posted on one of the store windows:
Can you imagine how hyper a kid would be after they have been given a shot of espresso and then handed a free puppy? They would be like the Energizer Bunny on amphetamine drugs!

  1. Laurel, If you stop and think about it, the picture is most appropriate - since I think we visited as many bathrooms in one day as all the lighthouses........:-) just sayin'
