Denali Days

Here we are, at the Caribou Loop in Riley Creek Campground.  There are no hookups at all here, so we had to be sure the water tank was filled up before we entered the campground.  Also, the park rules state that generators can only run between 8 and 10 in the morning and between 4 and 8 at night.  That has serious consequences for us 4 coffee lovers!  There was no way we were going to wait until 8 AM so we could run the generator and then have our Mr. Coffee pot start brewing.  Don is up by 6 AM and has never waited 2 hours for his morning coffee.   We found an old fashioned percolator coffee pot under the sink and used that for our first 2 pots of morning Joe.
Jerry and Sandy walked down to Riley Creek, located right behind our campground loop.
We found that someone worked hard on the diversion canal right beside the river.
Yes, it was a bit on the chilly side and I was glad I had borrowed Kim's winter jacket to wear.  Sandy, of course, had to check to see if the water was cold.   It was much, much colder than the water in Arizona!
Off we go, through the bushes to check out the landscape, hoping no bears were lurking nearby.
We came across several areas that had rock arrangements which puzzled us. We wondered if they meant anything or just made by someone with an enormous amount of time on their hands.
I just had to stop and take a picture of these beautiful pink Fireweed flowers that almost look like orchids to me.
We went back to the Mercantile store and Gary tried on several hats.  He looked the best in the Ranger hat.  Maybe we'll see him on our next excursion to Denali, driving a tour bus!
